This problem seems to happen in some multiple page threads.
Usually, the page 1 is shown as the "first unread post" of a multipage thread where posts are arranged in descending order of posting.
But sometimes, the last page of the thread is shown as the first unread post and comes up by default. As a result, an old post is shown as the last post and people who do not notice the page number or post date get confused and may sometimes reply to the old post. After that, instead of showing his/her recently written post, the same old page as previously shown, comes up again.
This doesn't happen in all multiple page threads. But the problem crops up suddenly in some cases and sometimes go away too after a while.
Is this a bug or do I have to change some settings? If this is a bug, can you please rectify it ?
