Hi can someone take a look at talksportforum.org please. I am getting the following error;

Unable to connect to database on '63.247.74.86' with user 'wwwuser_mfbb'
Please check your settings in multiforums.config.inc.php!

This has afdfected us a lot this week with the board being down for around three out of the seven days, though usually it is accompanied by this server being down too.

I would have posted this in the downtime notification forum but it seems to have disappeared.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the whole thread has been deleted by person or persons unknown for reasons best known to themselves. The action is now in the General Discussion forum. Until that gets deleted, of course...

Spoke too soon. I have tried clicking through to any of the forums on the board and I get a message like this;

Quote:
mySQL query error: SELECT DISTINCT(talksport_posts.author_id), talksport_topics.* FROM talksport_topics
LEFT JOIN talksport_posts ON
(talksport_topics.tid=talksport_posts.topic_id AND talksport_posts.author_id=24)
WHERE talksport_topics.forum_id=4
and talksport_topics.approved=1
and (talksport_topics.pinned=1 or talksport_topics.last_post > 1197674452) ORDER BY pinned DESC, last_post DESC LIMIT 0,20

mySQL error: Table 'talksport_posts' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
mySQL error code:
Date: Sunday 13th of January 2008 06:20:52 PM

I'm not sure how to run a 'repair' if this is possible by admin.

Mr. Admin, which forum here should we post in when (hoping never again!) our forums are down? I saw posts in Feedback, General Discussion and I think in News as well.

Thanks.

I recd the same error message as the OP here posted. I was going to paste it but lost it now. Anyway, what is happening exactly when we see that message?

App. 230 PM Eastern Time today I recd this message when trying to read THESE help forums:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on '63.247.74.86' (4) in /home/hsphere/local/home/wwwuser/support.myfreebulletinboard.com/db/mysql4.php on line 48 Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/hsphere/local/home/wwwuser/support.myfreebulletinboard.com/db/mysql4.php on line 330 Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/hsphere/local/home/wwwuser/support.myfreebulletinboard.com/db/mysql4.php on line 331 phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

When trying to read my own forums I got this message:
Unable to connect to database on '63.247.74.86' with user 'wwwuser_mfbb'
Please check your settings in multiforums.config.inc.php!

Like I said, I have no clue what any of that means. However, both sites are obviously now working. This makes me as kthe following question out of curiosity. If our admin was not around when this error/down time occured how was it now fixed and the boards work OK?

Also, instead of our members seeing that non user-friendly error message is it possible for a message to display saying something such as: "we are having technical troubles now, please check back shortly."

My members just get all bent out of shaped (and I can not blame them since I do too-LOL!) when these messages happen. I know on other boards if there is even a short burp in the system there is a much friendlier message shown. Oh, and I will have to go re-read our own admin's reply to there being a way for us to contact him/her (sorry!) during these outages, but, I just thought of something else. On other boards a message shows that the "tech team" has been notified already of the problem. Maybe that can be incorporated here? Just thinking off the top of my head!

Somethings like mysql can be overloaded and become unavailable for some time and then recover. Also some things get restarted periodically and get fixed that way.

Yes, it is possible to make changes like that, but for me to be able to offer this service for free there are certain limitations we have to deal with. One is using free forum scripts as they are.
