O.K. I'm definitely getting them on the forum...That just doesn't seem right...I don't mean to be critical because you provide a very good service here, but pop-ups are a real turn-off for people when they're reading a forum...I thought the advertising was to be limited to the banner at the top?? Now it's a banner at the top, a banner at the bottom, and pop-ups...

It is a pop under which means it opens underneath the window and you should only be one per visit. I understand your concerns and am against pop up’s. I thought this would be unobtrusive enough. Is one pop under per visit too much?

As far as the extra advertising goes I need to try to find other ways to increase income in order to be able to expand as needed IE pay for bandwidth and add more servers the other choice to just discontinue the service. I enjoy providing this service and do not want to have to shut it down.

The good news is I am just testing them and if they do not increase revenue by a good amount they are gone.

Well if the other choice is discontinue, then I guess there's no choice Wink
I really hate pop-up windows, but if as you say it's only one per visit, then I feel a little better about it...I hope they generate some revenue,(I mean that sincerely-it would be a shame if you stopped providing these bulletin boards) but personally I view pop-up windows the same as un-solicited phone-calls...I ignore them, rather than click on them..

That is the kind of feed back I need. Yes, it should be only once per visit and you should only see them after you close the main window. Trust me I will do my best to balance the needs of the users with the need for revenue because either way if the users are not happy mfbb will not grow.

I can deal with the banner ads, but I can't stand the popups. In fact, one of the major things that influenced me to sign up with this service was your statement to be popup free, (and proud of it) with one banner at the top that actually relates to the forum content. Now it's one banner at the top, another at the bottom, very flashy and completely irrelevant, and popups on top of that?

I understand trying to increase revenue, trust me, but popups are definitely NOT the way to go. If I were you, I would seriously reconsider that, because the members you may be losing in the process are not worth the popups. That's just my opinion. *Shrugs*

Thank you for your feedback. That is what I need to know if the pop up are going to cause me to loose members then I will get rid of them. I personally like the goggle ads the best because they don’t look gaudy but sometimes I think they blend in too well.
Any way I am just testing at the moment. Please bear with me for a few days at least.

I don't mind the Google ads at the top...In fact I've clicked on a fair amount of them, because they are often pertinent to what's going on for that particular page of the forum, and often interesting...David

And that's exactly it - since the google ads are actually pertinent to the site content, there's more incentive there for people to click on the links - and doesn't google pay you per click? I have even clicked on the links, more than a few times, and came across come pretty good sites.

Are you trying to make this site your main source of income, or have just as a side thing?

Yes, they do pay per click. I would love it if this became my main source of income but I am doubtful that that will ever happen. Right now I am just trying to justify the next server.

I honestly don’t feel comfortable discussing the financials of this site not to mention it is against google’s rules (pertaining to their ads). I was just trying to convey that I need to continuously look for opportunities to increase revenue as well as improve the service in order to continue to survive. I will continually try to different things to make the service better and more profitable. As it looks now pop unders may not be the right way to go.

For a moment i thought the pop-up was being caused by the spyware on my computer.

But pop-up ads are very annoing. None of my members have complained yet, but i still don't like it. One of the reasons we chose MFBB was the no pop-ups rule. Besides that the pop-up ads(unlike the google ones) don't bring up usefull sites, and they slow the acces to the site. Also being an admin i spend a fair ammount of time on my board i get those pop-ups more often than one per visit.
