I read in a few threads that we can make the forums add free by getting forum hosting elsewhere. Can i still have use of the database here if i can get the hosting?

i just dont want to lose the information by transferring.

I believe you can pay a $20 fee for a backup of your current board and then use that elsewhere. I am sure someone else will be around to correct me if this is wrong!
