I had alot of friends on AIM ask me to start a board, so mine just sorta took off.
After that though, it is starting to kinda die off, membership wise. I have added it to google, so it can be found, I have tried this Googlebomb I keep hearing about. and other than that, i havent done really anything to promote it.
Anyone do anything I haven't listed here? |

Another good way is to tell your friends. Tell them to come over, and talk about your forum. Another good way is to run outside, yelling your forum's url. But don't do it. I tried it once, and you would'nt believe what happened.

I have pretty bad rankings in google except for when you type in 'queen boards' exactly (name of board)
Otherwise, I'm nowhere to be seen there...
Apply for EVERY search engine and check your email, you might need a confirmation..
Exchange banners, links etc. and make friends with other managers of other forums/sites (join lots of sites!!)
Also join sites of the same theme as yours (say it's the band Metallica, join other Metallica sites/forums and advertise there.)
Tell friends, family, fans....EVERYONE. tell tell tell....
I have 54 members in my site so you mightn't wanna take that advice!! LOL

| Well with google a good idea is to post links on all sorts of boards, cause google ranks your site n the number of backlinks. Otherwise my board seems to be on google a lot. I mean i was searching for some information, and my board came poping up like #3 or 4 in the searches(YAAAY!). Okay so i'm bargging, don't mind me. |

This is a serious problem I am having as well. And, once you click on my link in my sig line here, you will see why! My site is constantly needing new members to make it work. It is designed to help you get one of those FREE iPods you all read about. (Plus many othe FREE electronic type items)
So far, I have added some keywords in hopes it attracts search engines--see the post on the suport board here for making text invisible. Also, there are two ranking/voting sites I have joined that deal specifically with sites similar t omine and has folks votinf/ranking/reviewing the site. So, the more visitors (pageviews) and the more reviews etc., the higher up the line my site gets listed. And, new folks looking to join a free iPod type site most likely choose from the top ten. Maybe others here could search for a similar voting site along with some keywords from your group to see what comes up.
There are also two other type sites that rank FREE type sites, they are listed on my site. One is called Soprano and the other topsites--I think! However, I have not really seen much traffic come from them.
I also use traffic generators which I knew nothing about until a member tipped me off on them! You register for the site and then list your URL. Once all set up, you keep a window open to "surf" all of the sites the traffic genereator site had registered--like yours. Each site pops up for ten seconds and you get so much credit for "viewing" that site. Those credit translate into how many times YOUR site would get displayed to others that are surfing in the same way. Yes, sometimes you will see your own site!!
So believe these generators are not a fair view of who sees your site and I do agree with that. However, my hope is that by using them, each pageview counts in an effort to get my site listed higher up in the voting sites. And, therefore, may cause those types of viewers to visit and register. BTW, if anyone is interested, PLMK and I can refer you! 
Along with what else has bee nmentioned, listing on google and signature line links etc., I would add if you also have a personal site of your own to link from there and ask all of yourmembers to do the same. Even if it is a page with baby pictures--LOL!!
Hope to read more replies on this here as I really need more visitors!
