I don't have much experience in this area.
I am considering moving my board to an ad free server.
I gather I will need a back-up of the current forum, but then what do I do with it? How do I 'transfer' the information and settings over to the new server?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

| I am in the same situation, I only know the principle, but thats it. Will for instance, the old board continue to exist and rack up posts, or will it dissapear? Will I be able to embed video clips or have increased functionality in the new one? |

You can disable your phpbb board in your admin panel after you've made your backup. Anyway if it goes 30 days without admin login or new posts it will be deleted automatically.
As for transferring your database you will have to upload it to your web server. The support people from the hosting server should be able to help you with this. |

Ok, how do I go ahead with this? Can you advise me of how I pay you, the cost etc? In what form do I get the board 'code'.. is it something I load onto my computer? Do I have a period of grace between paying for the ownership, and transferring it across to my new server? I need to sort out the fine detail, but I would like to proceed with this at the earliest convenience please.
Thank you. |

Backups can be bought at http://www.myfreebulletinboard.com/backup.cfm . It is a text file that contains all the commands to recreate your database on a new host. It contains all posts up until the time of backup. You can keep your forum here as long as you need after backup. _________________ Please use the search function. |

Thank you.
Will the functionality be the same after I've bought it?
Thank you again. |

<<bump>>
I noticed another thread about certain problems with transferring it. Is it simple to do? And in the event it'll take me a few days to sort out, is there anyway that I can transfer across those few days worth of input from 'here' so to speak, to the board's new venue?
Cheers. |

It is not that difficult, but some do have problems. If you have never done it before you may run into problems. Once the backup is made you would have to pay for another backup to get the remaining posts.
I would be willing to install on your new host, for a fee. Pm me if you are interested. _________________ Please use the search function. |
