We all have troubles with these characters that want to use our forums to sell their wares. I dunno if anyone else has thought of this, but I have started doing something that seems to have slowed it down from 8-10 a day, to 3-5 a week.
I used to spend alot of time deleting these "people". Now I leave them in my forum, (with a few alterations).
1. If the nickname is not offensive, don't change it because they can't use it again.
2. If the emaill addy looks for real, leave it too. If you send out alot of mass emails like I do, they get them (hopefully)... muhahahaha.
3. Change the password. Doesn't matter to what, just change it so they can't change anything in their profile again. Spambots won't bother.
4. Erase everything below that as this is usally where they promote whatever their selling.
5. Ever notice that they always select "chinese"? Prolly because the bots can't get around this. I change it to english just for the fun of it. LOL
6. DO NOT put a check in the "delete this user" box! Leave them in there. This keeps them from using the nic again and it also boost your member list and makes it look like your forum is really going strong.
(This is a good thing)
Like I said, the number of spammers I get now is far from what it used to be.
I would like to hear from any admins as to what they think of this idea as well as any other forum owners if you have tried this as well.

Hello Alien! (Did I just says hello to an alien? LOL)
Anyway, those sound like so god and funny tips! I will keep those in mind. On my forum I have not had this trouble for awhile. Seemed around DEC or JAN I would get tons of new members that I KNOW were not legit. They have never posted since and I think never posted in the first place--most of them. They never added much into their profile other than their location being google most of the time. So, nothing really for me to delete.
A few posted weird messages with links for christmas trees, christmas ornaments and so on. I just deleted the text of their post then added them to the ban group and gave them a nice bold red BANNED avatar-LOL!! I like some of your ideas but as I said, they never come back. I also left them there as it does look like we have more members-LOL! However, I would REALLY like to have more legit and LIVE members. I'll save that for another thread I may create here.

LOL yes,
But remember I said that I don't change their email address unless it's a fake one.
My forum sends out up to 4 mass emails every day, which means, they get them...muhahahahaha.
