Ok, I have my forum mostly setup, but I am wanting to put up a front page for it that I can add bios and pics, as well as some links to downloads and the forum itself. Like a front page I guess. I am also wanting to change the color and background of the forum along with the font and some other little things.

Is there a editor or somethign to help me with this?

It is phpbb. The only thing you can do is change the theme and upload a logo. With ipb you can chabge more, but you must know html to do that.

You can't change the font but you can change the background, font colours & the rest in your admin pannel>Styles Admin>Menu. There click on "edit styles data" and then "edit" next to the skin you want to edit.

As for a front page with bios & downloads, you could get some free webspace somewhere (like geocities)and link it to your forum.

Now I regret not choosing ipb over phpbb. As one's expertise increases, you'll feel the frustrations of not having more powerful features made available to you. Better to have more options ready for use later on when one gets more experienced than having none at all and discovering that you are stuck at basic level forever!!!

Admin,

Is it really not possible to convert phpbb to ipb? Seems to read somewhere that it can be done albeit with a lot of work involved.

Why is it not possible to use the <embed> code in the forum pages? The code (<embed src="http://img461.imageshack.us/slideshow/smilplayer.swf" width="640" height="480" name="smilplayer"...) only works in the descripton box when you create a new forum. But I want the slideshow to appear inside one of the forum pages not in the forum index.

Ok then, where can I go to start an IPB forum? Are they free as well?

I was thinking of using dreamweaver to make a front page and upload it to freewebs and link to the forums. Only problem is I have almost no skill at Dreamweaver at the moment.

Ipb is free also and is more flexable, but unless you know css and html, I would stick with phpbb.

Suppose we buy a backup from you and do the conversion to ipb ourselves, will you upload for us again?

1. Do you charge for upload?

2. Will the URL remain 100% unchanged - i.e. the same for phpbb and ipb?
(e.g. www.mfbb.net/name given that the name is the same for both boards)

Thanks.
