Admin,

I understand that this backup has now been paid for and run but that it has not yet been delivered to us.

I would be grateful if you could arrange to provide it to us today. If you are unable to deliver it today, we will want the backup run again so that it is up to date. I think it is reasonable to expect swift delivery following the backup operation for what I think are obvious reasons.

Thanks.

The backup has not been run. The delay was due to you asking for the wrong forum to be backed up. I sent an email to the account you payed with on Jan 15th and got no response.

Now that I know which forum you want backed up I will get it done asap. Wink PM coming.........

Admin: Now that you have had the chance to investigate, can you please answer the questions I posed earlier in this thread, namely…

Would you care to comment on this state of affairs? How do you square this with the claims on your home page about reliability and speed? How can I attract new users while this is going on?

What can I tell my members about how this sort of disaster will be avoided in future?

I understand your frustration, as I feel it too. I think that most of you will agree if you have been here a while, that we usually have long periods of stability followed by periods of problems.

These problems usually are due to the need to upgrade hardware or software due to a failure, or a spike in activity that causes high server load.

This paticular fix was delayed by me being on vacation.

The best answer I can give is I will try to avoid this in the future by triple checking the state of things before leaving on vacation. Short of hiring a full service server management company and having clusterd servers that is the best I can do.

Here we go again…

January 21 2008

Slow response times all day, till all systems down at 16.40.

January 22 2008

All systems down from 10.30 till 15.00. Then chronically slow (10 to 20 seconds) response times after that.

I can not provide down times in the past 24 hours or so since I was away. However, this morning I had some members tell me the site was down last night (1/21) and early this AM (1/22) also. I just now had clicked on a member profile and recd the can not connect... message. Then, seconds late it was OK. I have noticed that the site is loading slowly this AM.

I know none of this vague info helps!

Mr. Admin, have you read and/or considered the suggestion I made regarding the creation of an email addy for the admins of the free boards to use in the event of the boards being down--and none of the mfbb.com addys working at the time?

Thanks for the info guys, working on the load issues. Confused, you are beating a dead horse! Smile If I am online I check here before any email account. The email idea would work great if I had a blackberry, but I don't so it this point it is useless.

January 23 thru 25 2008:

Very variable response times, from subsecond to over 20 seconds. Occasional timeouts.

Attempt to post to my forum at about 19.00 today gave this error message:

Mail Error!

SMTP protocol failure!
Host: localhost
Return Code:
Return Msg:
Invision Power Board Error:
Check your SMTP settings from the admin control panel

What's that about?

[quote="confusedabit]... are signatures here disabled? I added one, see it in my profile edit page, but do not see it in my threads.[/quote]

You can turn it on or off when you post by checking or unchecking the "attach signatures" box. Please turn it off when it's not relevant because it confuses all the rest of us!

Thanks for explaining where the feature is located bryan, However, I must say, tonight is the VERY FIRST Shocked time I saw my signature line appear in one of my replies. I added the sig line that said when my board was working about a week or so ago when we all had the boards out of order and our admin was trying to fix boards individually, I assume. I had posted in several threads that my board was not working and he said doing so was making it harder for him to get them fixed. So much for that idea of mine-LOL!

Now to come up with a usefull sig line...off to edit-thanks again...

January 29 and 30 2008

Very poor response times as per January 23 thru 25 above. Occasional complete timeouts.

Admin, may we please have an update on the progress you're making with stabilising the forum? I keep reassuring my members that the problems are being worked on, but I have little evidence to back up this assertion.

Delayed reply from me here, but thank you. It was delivered and all is well.

Good luck to everyone else with your forums.
